At 2:19 am on Thursday last week, an explosion went off near Piero’s Italian Cuisine, prompting swift action from law enforcement. Police were able to arrest a suspect several days later, over the weekend, on Saturday, when the alleged culprit, John Navarro, 35, was taken into custody.
One of the Suspects Is Still At Large
He has been charged with possession of an explosive device and arson. He is one of two suspects. On Thursday morning, two men converged near the eatery. One of them had arrived on a scooter. The two men appeared to have planted a device, which was activated, with them fleeing the scene.
After burning for a while, the device went off and blew up, causing damage to the building. There has been no motive for the bombing so far, with police unable to put a reason behind the two men’s actions. The second suspect is still at large.
Pierro’s is located near the Las Vegas Strip, which hosts the city’s and some of the world’s biggest and most frequented casinos. However, Sheriff Kevin McMahill has assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to the community and that police had secured the area, ensuring that a repeat accident is unlikely.
No Ongoing Risk to the Community
To investigate the matter, the FBI, the ATF, and counterterrorist units from the local PD have been dispatched. Navarro’s swift arrest has demonstrated law enforcement’s capability to track down suspects in high-stakes cases such as this one.
The police have not released further details, however, and have failed to provide further account as to the motivation behind the attack.
