Raylin Marie Benzie appears remotely before a judge in Washington State after being charged with first-degree murder. Clark County prosecutors allege Benzie spiked a man’s drink with fentanyl and stole money from him after agreeing to have sex with him in exchange for money in a tribal casino hotel room. (Image: Clark County Superior Court)In a 20-page affidavit, law enforcement details allegations against Raylin Marie Benzie. The police record claims that Benzie was at the ilani Casino Hotel Resort in Ridgefield on Oct. 4, where casino surveillance video captured her walking the gaming floor with a 38-year-old man later identified only as Arslan.
Benzie and Arslan were seen going up to a 10th-floor hotel room on the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 4. At the time, Benzie was wearing leopard print clothing, according to reports from KATU.
About an hour later, Benzie left the hotel room by herself. Roughly two hours later, she returned with another man and entered the room for less than 10 minutes before exiting.
After hotel housekeeping discovered Arslan unresponsive on Oct. 5, a police investigation ensued. Detectives were able to identify Benzie, who was brought in for questioning.
Suspect Accused of Drugging
The police report said Benzie initially denied any role in Arslan’s death. She said he agreed to pay her $1,200 in casino winnings to have sex. She agreed, but once in the hotel room, Benzie claimed he “disrespected her.”
She told police he was “snoring” when she left the room. However, a warrant for Benzie’s cell phone told a different story.
I PANICKED AND DID SOMETHING DUMB I NEED OUT OF HERE PLEASE. I COULD GO AWAY FOR A VERY LONG TIME,” police allege she texted a friend in all caps.
The second man seen in the surveillance video reportedly told police that Benzie intended to use a date rape drug to rob Arslan but realized she only had fentanyl. She spiked the man’s drink with the powerful synthetic opioid, which is up to 100 times stronger than morphine.
She made a statement she ‘drugged this f***er and that he probably OD’d and he’s probably going to die,'” the man told investigators, as reported in the probable cause affidavit.
Ilani Casino surveillance showed Benzie allegedly cashing out Arslan’s gaming voucher.
Charges Filed, Bail Set
Prosecutors have charged Benzie with first-degree murder, controlled substances homicide, poisoning, first-degree robbery, and second-degree theft. She faces life imprisonment, as Washington has abolished the death penalty. Her bail has been set $10 million.
A search of the Washington Courts online database turned up dozens of cases involving Benzie dating back to 2011.
