Rockstar’s western classic has been announced for every modern platform under the sun, as an insider doubles down on an updated version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

While Rockstar left many in a frenzy with GTA 6’s second delay, it has followed up that punishing blow with a port of an old game that should help ease the pain to some degree.

Red Dead Redemption, the successor to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver, is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, iOS, Android, and even Netflix, on December 2, 2025.

This new version includes the Undead Nightmare expansion, along with bonus content from the Game Of The Year edition.

While it isn’t a full-blown remaster, it does feature some new enhancements. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the title supports 60fps, improved image quality, HDR, and resolutions up to 4K. The Switch 2 version, meanwhile, supports 60fps, DLSS, HDR, and mouse controls.

If you already own Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or the digital backwards compatible version on Xbox One, you’ll be eligible for a free digital upgrade. Your save progress will also carry over, albeit only on the PlayStation and Switch versions.

If you’re subscribed to GTA+, you’ll get access to these console versions at no extra cost. The enhanced port will also be available to PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers for free.

While any enhanced port is always welcome, you might be wondering about the rumoured current gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Earlier this year, it was claimed an updated version of the sequel for Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 was set to arrive in 2025.

Following the announcement of these ports, reliable insider NateTheHate has reaffirmed that the sequel is still planned for modern consoles. ‘This doesn’t negate RDR2 happening,’ he wrote on X in response to fans.

‘I said I was told it would come a few months after [Switch 2] launch – which is info from the start of 2025,’ he added. ‘GTA 6 has since been delayed and [Rockstar] does whatever they want. Release timelines can change.’

While he doesn’t offer any updated timeframe, Rockstar has a large window to play with, considering GTA 6 has been pushed back to November 19, 2026.

Rockstar hasn’t announced a price for this new version of Red Dead Redemption, but the game currently costs £39.99 on the Nintendo Switch, so expect it to be in the same ballpark.
