Another day, another prediction markets deal for PrizePicks. This time it’s with Kalshi — the US leader in event contracts volume.

The daily fantasy sports (DFS) company and the prediction markets giant today announced that Kalshi yes/no derivatives are live on the PrizePicks mobile application and that they’re entering into a “multi-year partnership.” Financial terms of that relationship weren’t revealed. The news emerged just three days after PrizePicks and Kalshi rival Polymarket announced a similar accord.

Customers on PrizePicks are now able to make predictions on outcomes across sports, entertainment, and pop culture directly within the PrizePicks app through Kalshi’s extensive library of event contracts. All event contracts listed on PrizePicks are Kalshi markets,” according to a statement.

The news jibes with rumors that surfaced in August indicating Atlanta-based PrizePicks was looking for avenues to move into prediction markets – speculation that was heightened when the company landed Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) status from the National Futures Association (NFA). That designation allows it to market derivatives regulated by the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) — the regulatory body that oversees companies like Kalshi and Polymarket.

Deal Could Be Significant for Kalshi and PrizePicks

The arrangements with Kalshi and Polymarket could prove significant for PrizePicks because it represents further evolution for the company. The operator started as an against-the-house DFS operator, shedding that status for the more regulatory friendly player vs. player (PVP) model.

In most DFS games, participants build lineups or place bets on athletes’ statistics, such as points, passing yards, or hits. That is to say standard DFS games, including those long offered by PrizePicks often center around specific players, not teams. By way of its partnership with Kalshi, PrizePicks now offers clients access to team-driven outcomes.

“Team Picks introduces a new way to predict, giving customers the ability to pick the winner of a game, fight, match and more,” according to the press release. “For the first time on PrizePicks, customers can experience the excitement of predicting team outcomes, from individual matchups to season-long futures like win totals, playoff chances and championship winners.”

This also marks the first time PrizePicks will offer customers exposure to something other than sports. That’s potentially pertinent because as of today, just four of the top 12 open contracts on Kalshi as measured by volume were sports derivatives.

For Kalshi, the PrizePicks relationship could pay dividends in multiple ways. The prediction markets operator gains a new distribution partner and one with sports-focused competencies, which could be important as DraftKings and FanDuel roll out their prediction markets.

What’s Difference Between Kalshi, Polymarket Deals?

It appears that biggest difference between PrizePicks’ deals with Kalshi and Polymarket is that the Kalshi is now live. Polymarket’s reentry into the US was delayed by the government shutdown, but that company is beta testing in this market, has a waitlist, and is expected reopen its US platform by the end of November.
