Playbook Gaming has surrendered six licences and been handed a £250,000 penalty by the Gambling Commission.
The firm relinquished its licences relating to sports betting, online casino and bingo on 19 November and will be ending all B2C and white-label activities.
The Gambling Commission has also announced a £250,000 penalty for the business, for anti-money laundering (AML) and social responsibility breaches found between August 2023 and August 2024.
During that time, Playbook Engineering was the white-label platform for several operators in the UK, including PlanetSportBet, Rhino.Bet and BetZone.
The AML failings centred around risk assessments and procedures, while social responsibility shortcomings were found across various facets of customer interaction.
The regulator also noted there were breaches of the regulations around the identification of individual customers.
Alongside the six-figure penalty, the Gambling Commission also imposed a warning on the licensee.
The Gambling Commission did note that Playbook cooperated with the regulator throughout the investigation.
Of the brands powered by Playbook, BetZone, BresBet, DragonBet, PlanetSportBet and VickersBet have all moved onto other licences, either proprietary or third-party.
Rhino.Bet and Yeeehaaa.Bet remain inactive.
A Playbook spokesperson said: “Playbook Gaming, the B2C arm of Playbook was fined £250,000 for failings as outlined in the GC’s statement following an audit in March 2024.
“Playbook accepts these historical failings and has agreed to pay the fine in full.
“Separately, Playbook has reviewed its business model and is now solely focused on providing software and hosting for B2B online bookmakers in the UK, giving up all B2C and white-label activities.
“As such Playbook no longer needs its Playbook Gaming remote and non-remote licences and has instructed the GC that it will not be renewing these in December.
“We cooperated with the Gambling Commission throughout the investigation.”
The action comes days after the Gambling Commission announced it had fined Videoslots £650,000 for social responsibility and AML failings.
