Ryan North is ‘stoked’ to be writing for EA ’s Iron Man game, but we just hope this means there’ll be a Squirrel Girl cameo.

It’ll be a long while before fans see anything of substance from EA’s Iron Man game , which was announced to be in development at the company’s Motive studio last year.

Despite the lack of info, though, it looks to be in safe hands just based on who’s working on the game. Motive itself has a strong track record thanks to Star Wars: Squadrons and the Dead Space remake , but the team is also being led by Olivier Proulx, who was co-producer on Square Enix’s excellent Guardians Of The Galaxy game .

Now it transpires that one Ryan North has been brought onto the writing team, which makes us very happy since he’s the author behind Marvel’s award-winning The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl run, from 2014 to 2019.

Iron Man made several cameos during that run, so North already has experience with the character. Frankly, though, we’re more excited at the new possibility of Squirrel Girl appearing in the game herself.

Most may not associate her with Iron Man, but Squirrel Girl’s comic debut in 1991 saw her forcefully team up with him to defeat Doctor Doom, which she did singlehandedly with a horde of squirrels. So, the two have a long history together.

This also isn’t North’s first brush with video games. He wrote for 2013 puzzle game Stick It To The Man and 2021’s Lost In Random ; both of which featured sharp and entertaining scripts. Considering EA also published Lost In Random, perhaps that played a part in North’s hire on Iron Man.

‘It’s no secret that I love Iron Man and have written my heart out for Tony Stark every chance I’ve had,’ North wrote on Twitter. ‘So I’m pretty stoked to say I’m part of the writing team on the upcoming Iron Man game from Motive Studio!’

So far, the only other detail Motive has shared on the Iron Man game is that it’s being made in Unreal Engine 5 and while it’s the studio’s main focus, the project is still in pre-production.

Motive has also put together a ‘Community Council made up of Iron Man and Marvel fans’ to provide constant feedback throughout development. Hopefully they put in a good word for Doreen.
