Louisiana Riverboat Casinos See September’s Revenue Up 2.5% From August

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) issued its latest revenue report for September. According to state regulators, Louisiana gaming revenue from LA riverboat casinos and Harrah’s New Orleans , the state’s lone commercial land-based casino, was nearly  $185 million .
The LGCB also reports gaming revenue from:

Racetracks with slot machines
Video gaming terminals
Sports betting (from nine online sportsbooks and retail locations)

As usual, most of the revenue came from Louisiana riverboat casinos. Revenue in that gaming segment totaled nearly $140 million and showed a slight monthly increase.
LA riverboat casinos generate almost $140M in September
Statewide, Louisiana’s 15 riverboat casinos brought in  $139.4 million  in gaming revenue in September.
The figure is a  2.5% monthly increase  from August’s revenue of $136.07 million , but a 0.9% yearly decrease from September 2022’s $140.69 million.
The five most successful operators throughout the month were:

L’Auberge Lake Charles : $26.52 million (12.1% monthly increase, but 12.5% yearly drop)
Golden Nugget Lake Charles : $25.94 million (2.8% monthly drop and 18.8% annual decrease)
Margaritaville : $14.79 million (2.7% monthly decline and 8% yearly drop)
L’Auberge Baton Rouge : $12.54 million (14.4% monthly drop and 5.2% annual decrease)
Horseshoe Bossier City : $10.4 million (0.1% monthly decline, but 0.2% yearly surge)

While Horseshoe Bossier City did almost the same as in August, La’Auberge Baton Rouge drove the revenue increase and was the only operator to show monthly growth.
After three months of decline, Harrah’s New Orleans shows revenue increase
The state’s only land-based casino, Harrah’s New Orleans, generated $20.69 million in total gross gaming revenue in September. While the number is a  15.2% monthly increase  from August 2023, it shows a  9.8% yearly drop  from August 2022’s $22.93 million.
Although the casino shows an increase in revenue from the summer months, it wasn’t as successful as it was from February until May. Here’s how September gaming revenue for the state’s lone land-based casino compares to previous months:

Delta Downs remains Louisiana’s racetrack leader
In September, slots at racetracks brought in  $25.08 million in total gross revenue. The number is very similar to the one from August and July.
Here’s how much each Louisiana racetrack generated throughout last month:

Delta Downs: $ $12.94 million
Evangeline Downs: $5.90 million
Louisiana Downs: $3.13 million
Fair Grounds: $3.10 million

While Delta Downs and Louisiana Downs showed a slight monthly growth, Evangeline Downs and Fair Grounds reported a minor monthly drop.
Louisiana online sports betting handle climbs to $248.8M
Nine Louisiana online sportsbook licensees generated $ 248.83 million in total bets. The figure represents an almost 80% monthly increase and 44.4% yearly growth . That success can be attributed to the busy football season.
After promo deductions (totaling $1,324,483), LA sportsbooks generated  $36.08 million in gaming revenue  throughout September. As a result, the state collected $4.75 million in taxes.
As usual, Louisiana players mostly placed parlay bets. Here’s how much revenue came from each sport during September:

Parlay: 19,837,373
Football: 7,307,884
Baseball: 6,539,110
Soccer: 252,480
Basketball: 118,218
Other: 2,311,652

Meanwhile, retail sportsbooks doubled from August’s $15.08 million to  $31.26 million in total bets in September. Of that total, September revenue reached $5.74 million, far more than August’s $1.97 million and July’s $1.90 million.
Other sources of gambling revenue
In September, net revenue from Louisiana video gaming totaled $60.08 million across 11,384 locations. September’s revenue figure is a 2.5% monthly drop and a 3.7% yearly decrease.
