New details for Ubisoft ’s Far Cry multiplayer game have leaked as well as artwork from Assassin’s Creed Red.

Ubisoft has yet to say anything about the future of the Far Cry series and yet there are strong rumours of at least two projects in development : a traditional sequel aka Far Cry 7 and a multiplayer spin-off.

Just last month, supposed story details for Far Cry 7 were leaked, describing a non-linear plot and a 24-hour time limit , and now further details for the multiplayer game, codenamed Maverick, have followed.

Aside from being an extraction shooter (think Escape From Tarkov or Sega’s cancelled Hyenas ), it’s claimed that Ubisoft wants it out in April 2025, with Far Cry 7 to follow in the autumn.

Maverick’s premise involves players being lured to a fictional Alaskan setting called Alashnica and needing to survive by gathering resources. Examples include killing animals to craft gear and harvesting plants to make medicine, the usual in other words.

There are contracts you must complete in order to level up and, in doing so, you can acquire perks. However, the game features permadeath, so dying means you’ll lose literally everything.

However, there is a hideout where you can store items such as weapons and gear, which won’t be lost if/when you die. Said hideout can be shared with friends if you’re all playing together, but there is the option to play solo.

Despite signs of there being a live service Far Cry game in development, there’s no mention of any such elements being present in Maverick. Although it’s also said to have changed scope several times, so it’s possible they’ve since been removed.

This is all according to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson , a provonly reliable source of info who, was also the first to share details on the new Far Cry games.

He adds that the April 2025 window isn’t necessarily set in stone, since it’s entirely possible there’ll be an internal delay.

This isn’t the only Ubisoft related leak to occur lately, and this second one comes from the company itself.

Over on LinkedIn, Assassin’s Creed series writer Pierre Boudreau updated his account with a new banner image that featured never before seen art from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Red , aka the one set in Feudal Japan.

The image doesn’t reveal much, but it does show off the game’s logo plus a first look at what is presumably the female shinobi mentioned in previous rumours .

Boudreau has since replaced the image with one for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla , but not before someone managed to screengrab it for posterity.
