The director for Spider-Man 2 weighs in on the game length versus price debate and refuses to even hint at what Insomniac’s doing next.

There has been some debate over whether Spider-Man 2 ’s £70 price tag justifies its length. It’s possible to complete the main story and all the side quests in as little as 30 hours ; a fact that had some people irate even before today’s launch.

It doesn’t help that Spider-Man 2’s release comes after the double whammy of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield , both of which can cost upwards of £70 but have hundreds of hours’ worth of content.

Spider-Man 2’s creative director Bryan Intihar was asked for his thoughts on the matter and, naturally, he thinks the game does justify its pricing, adding that his team’s priority was quality as opposed to ensuring the game lasted an arbitrary number of hours.

‘I feel confident in saying that it’s worth it. … For us, it really comes down to the experience we want to deliver with the quality we want to hit,’ Intihar told BBC Newsbeat .

This may have proved beneficial for Spider-Man 2, as Insomniac avoided padding the story out and making the whole thing feel bloated; something the original PlayStation 4 game did suffer from.

Intihar adds that it’s ultimately up to developers to ensure that their games justify their price tags, saying ‘Obviously, there’s a certain level of, ‘hey, someone’s going to spend this much money on a game’, so we want to give them the experience that’s worth it.

‘Our job is to make sure that you feel no matter how long it is, it’s worth that money, it’s worth that investment.’

It’s safe to assume then that Insomniac will take the same approach with its Wolverine game . Very little info has been shared since the initial teaser, but it has been described as a ‘full size’ game, suggesting it won’t be as short as the Miles Morales half-sequel , which told its story in roughly eight hours.

Speaking of Wolverine, Intihar is keeping mum about whether that will be the next game Insomniac puts out or if it will focus on something else, like the Venom spin-off teased by senior narrative director Jon Paquette.

If you’re still adamant about not spending £70 for Spider-Man 2, you may want to have another look around as some retailers have already discounted the game for its launch.

Spider-Man 2 is available for PlayStation 5.
