If a goldfish can learn how to play Elden Ring, anything is possible (Picture: YouTube)
A speedrunner has trained their dog to play an old NES game and wants to show off their skills at next year’s AGDQ event.
It seems the best way to get people to check out a speedrunning attempt is to add some bizarre stipulation. One Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice player filmed himself clearing it blindfolded and Baldur’s Gate 3 has a dedicated category just for reaching a sex scene as quickly as possible.
Next year’s Awesome Games Done Quick event, however, will be breaking new ground as it will feature a literal dog as one of its participants.
Yes, you read that right. For the first time ever, someone is bringing their pet Shiba Inu to speedrun a video game.
Unfortunately, they will not be running Silent Hill 2, in reference to one of it’s joke endings , but will instead be playing Gyromite, one of only two NES games that made use of Nintendo’s R.O.B. accessory .
The dog, named Peanut Butter, won’t be using said accessory and will instead play the game using a custom-made controller while receiving instructions from his owner, speedrunner JSR.
This won’t be Peanut Butter’s debut speedrun, though, as he completed a Gyromite run this past summer, beating it in just under 25 and a half minutes. You can watch a video of it below, which JSR says took years of training.
The goal for AGDQ is to clear the game in less than 30 minutes, so between its short length and the presence of a cute dog, this run is bound to attract a lot of attention.
JSR will be participating in AGDQ himself and attempt to complete Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse in under 40 minutes.
