New rumours about the Nintendo Switch 2 claim it will use ray reconstruction DLSS technology for next gen style ray-tracing.

While it’s very unlikely that Nintendo will unveil their new console this year, rumours have been coming through at a surprisingly steady pace lately. And not just random guesses from 4chan but believable details, that end up being supported by multiple sources.

One of those is Nate the Hate, who’s correctly predicted Nintendo Directs in the past and whose claims about the new console having an LCD screen , rather than OLED, have been corroborated by the likes of VGC.

That doesn’t mean he’s going to be right about everything, but his latest podcast predicts that the Switch 2 will support Nvidia DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction, which is a feature not even the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 has.

Just like DLSS technology used to increase resolution, without needing extra horsepower, ray reconstruction uses AI to improve ray-tracing even on devices that aren’t especially powerful.

However, apparently the Switch 2 – or whatever Nintendo’s new console ends up being called – won’t support DLSS Frame Generation, which helps improve frame rates in a similar manner.

The use of so much DLSS (deep learning super sampling) makes perfect sense for a Switch follow-up, as it enables a game to look next gen even on a console with fairly modest graphical abilities.

This would explain rumours of the Switch 2 running the very demanding The Matrix Awakens demo and in theory means the new console could run almost any Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 game.

Because the tech is software based it can also be upgraded over time and new features added, so It’s no wonder the rumours paint Nintendo as working closely with Nvidia.

These are just rumours though and even if the information is true now it doesn’t mean it will stay that way. After all, it’s not as if Nintendo hasn’t fallen out with a major partner before… just ask Sony.

Since it all makes logical sense, and Nate the Hate has proven reliable in the past, there’s a good chance this is all true, which makes the Switch 2 sound extremely exciting.
