Arizona’s August Sports Gambling Revenue Drops From July, Total Bets Increase

The  Arizona Department of Gaming ‘s latest report shows AZ sportsbook operators received  $358.88 million in total bets  in August. Out of total bets (also referred to as a betting handle), Arizonians gambled:

$3.41 million in three retail operators
$354.62 million using 17 online sportsbooks

Arizona’s August betting handle figure represents an  11% monthly increase  from the $323.21 million generated in July. However, the number has slightly decreased yearly from August 2022’s $360 million.

After paying out $327.19 million in winnings to players, AZ sportsbooks held  $30.89 million in gross revenue  in August. The figure is a  10.67% monthly drop  from the $34.58 million generated in July .
After deductions and promotional credits, the state imposed taxes on $21.4 million in adjusted gross revenue. As a result, the Grand Canyon State collected  $2.1 million in taxes  for the month.
DraftKings leads the way in total bets collected
Throughout August,  DraftKings  was the most successful AZ operator in terms of a betting handle. Meanwhile, FanDuel was the top performer regarding the gross revenue generated.
According to the  Arizona Department of Gaming’s August report , here’s how the state’s sports betting operators performed:

DraftKings : 115.55 million in the betting handle, $9.43 million in gross revenue
FanDuel : $115.09 million worth of bets, generating $12.23 million in gross revenue
BetMGM : $50.47 million in betting handle with $4.99 million in gross revenue
Caesars : $33.61 million in total bets, $2.31 million worth of gross revenue
Desert Diamond Sportsbook : $15.34 million betting handle and $ 104,093.40 in gross revenue

Of the 17 AZ online sportsbook sites, 13 showed profits during August.
Arizona ranks 7th nationally in total bets
Arizona sports betting handle in August is again among the top 10 in the country. To be more specific, Arizona ranks no.7 nationally in total bets and here’s how it compares to other US betting states with best-performing handles in August:

New York: $1.12 billion
New Jersey: $725.8 million
Illinois: $676.1 million
Nevada: $431.0 million
Pennsylvania: $393.0 million
Ohio: $379.5 million
Arizona: $358.9 million
Virginia: $319.0 million
Massachusetts: $314.9 million
Maryland: $263.7 million
