In the wake of Spider-Man 2’s new gameplay trailer, Insomniac attempts to put minds at ease over the lack of launch date and pre-order details.



Since it served as the finale of last night’s PlayStation Showcase , and is scheduled to arrive this autumn, you’d think Sony would be able to tell everyone exactly when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is launching.



Yet while fans were treated to roughly 10 minutes of gameplay, confirming new details like swapping control between Peter and Miles, and the former sporting the iconic black symbiote suit, Sony could only reiterate an autumn launch window.



The lack of a date, with at least four months to go, has caused some concern and developer Insomniac appears to have recognised this and is assuring fans that details regarding the launch date and pre-orders will be shared in the near future.

When one fan expressed worry about missing the pre-order window for a potential collector’s edition (something that also hasn’t been announced but probably will be a thing), Insomniac promises to inform everyone of pre-order dates before they go live.

Insomniac hasn’t elaborated much on what was shown in the gameplay trailer, but it has revealed the identity of the actor playing Kraven, one of the game’s main villains.



He is voiced by the very not Russian Jim Pirri. While he’s worked mostly in film and TV, he’s been getting more prominent video game roles in recent years.



PlayStation fans should recognise him as the voice of supporting character Boozer from Days Gone , Birgir from God Of War Ragnarök , and Angelo Bronte from Red Dead Redemption 2 – one of that game’s main antagonists.

He joins Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter, who have returned to reprise their roles as Peter and Miles, respectively (with Lowenthal getting to do an edgier, meaner take on the character thanks to the black suit’s influence). Meanwhile, Candyman actor Tony Todd is classic Spidey baddie Venom.



Despite being confirmed for Spider-Man 2 back when it was announced , Venom was very much absent in the newest trailer. He’s clearly being set up as one of the major antagonists, but the identity of Venom’s human component is a subject of some debate.



The previous two games seemed to be setting up Harry Osborn (Peter’s best friend) as Venom, but there are rumours and theories of Eddie Brock (the original identity of Venom from the comics) making an appearance.



With the black suit confirmed to be a key part of Peter’s arsenal this time, some even think, rather than just get moodier and more violent, he’ll outright turn into Venom at some point. One fan has an especially wild prediction that Venom and Kraven will be one and the same, with the latter taking the black suit for himself.





It feels like a pretty clear line that Spider-Man 2 is going to have Harry Osborn be Venom and honestly that’s yet another great revamp for that universe because it immediately makes the relationship with Peter so much more raw and painful than Eddie was early on — GROVEL, HUMANS!
