Assassin’s Creed Mirage – we hope you loved the first game because the new one takes a lot of deliberate influences (pic: Ubisoft)



Although it leaked just beforehand, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches this October and pre-orders are live now.



Rather than save the news for its own presentation next month , Ubisoft allowed Sony to debut a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, at last night’s PlayStation showcase , as well as unveil its launch date.



Although it was previously rumoured for an August launch , Japanese retailers recently listed it for October 12, which is now confirmed to be the case.



As a reminder, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is more of a throwback to the original games, before they morphed into action role-players. In fact, Mirage looks almost exactly like the very first Assassin’s Creed game, or at least your memory of what it was like.



The heavier emphasis on parkour, stealth, and actual assassinations is a welcome return to form for those burnt out on the more modern entries. It’s even explicitly described as a ‘tribute to the first Assassin’s Creed.’



However, we’re not sure why Ubisoft seems to be taking more inspiration from the first game when, even back when it came out, it was perceived as being a rather flawed and average title.



It was Assassin’s Creed 2 that really set the template for the series. Not to mention it got two spin-offs and its protagonist, Ezio, became a far more popular and iconic character than the first game’s Altaïr.



We’ll have to wait and see exactly how much influence the first game has on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, although diehard fans of the series are no doubt already sold.



If you’re one such fan, you’ll be happy to know that pre-orders are live across all platforms, including for the game’s deluxe edition.



Aside from a digital soundtrack and artbook, it comes with some Prince Of Persia inspired cosmetics. This is obviously meant to be some cute fanservice but it’s also a bitter reminder that the much hyped Sands Of Time remake is still no closer to coming out and clearly suffering a troubled development .



Pre-orders, for any of the versions, also provide exclusive access to a quest titled The Forty Thieves. This Ali Baba inspired content was among the first things leaked for the game and was always suspected to be DLC of some kind.



Now fans know that it’s a pre-order bonus that, from the sound of things, won’t be sold separately.



Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5,  PC, and Amazon Luna on October 12.
