Persona 3 – will the remake be an Xbox reveal? (pic: Atlus)



New rumours about a Persona 3 remake claim it will be unveiled at the Xbox not-E3 event next month, but that doesn’t mean it’s an exclusive.



Although you’d think fans would be more interested in knowing where Persona 6 is, the most consistent rumours about the next entry in the franchise have been focused on a remake of 2006’s Persona 3.



There’s been nothing in the way of proof, and plenty of fakes , but the latest suggestion is that it’ll be unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11.



So far, there’s been no suggestion that it’s an Xbox exclusive but the mere fact that Microsoft would be unveiling it, rather than Sony, is a significant step forward in terms of the series being seen as multiformat.



The information comes from a poster on ResetEra , who has proven a reliable source of information on publisher Atlus in the past.



No details are offered though, just an instruction to watch the showcase and a reference to the Evokers from Persona 3 – the device used to release a character’s persona, which looks very much like a gun.



How that, and other elements that might not have aged so well, will be handled remains to be seen but despite the persistent rumours none of the leaked information has described exactly what the remake will look like or what formats it will be released for.



The Persona games have traditionally been PlayStation consoles exclusives, but ports of Persona 5 were recently released on Xbox and Switch. That doesn’t mean Persona 6 won’t be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, but clearly Atlus is trying to branch out to some degree.



One reason the remake rumours are so persistent is because there is no definitive version of the game. The most recent remasters are based on the PSP version, which includes a female playable character option but doesn’t have the epilogue from Persona 3 FES or the 3D environments of the PlayStation 2 versions.



A remake that unified all the different editions of the game, and improved the graphics, would be welcomed and if it’s part of the Xbox Games Showcase it will also help to promote the console as catering better to fans of Japanese gaming .
