There’s no official word from Sony but rumours suggest that PlayStation’s big summer preview event could be in just a couple of weeks.



Technically, it’s less than a month since the last PlayStation State of Play (the Final Fantasy 16-only one ) but it seems like forever since there’s been one in which Sony announced major new games – or expanded on titles they’ve confirmed but never shown in action, like Spider-Man 2 and The Last Of Us multiplayer.



Fans have been hoping that there would be one this summer, at the time E3 would usually be, but since Sony long ago stopped attending E3, even when it was still going, there’s been no guarantees.



Xbox already has a showcase planned for June 11 but according to two reliable sources the PlayStation equivalent is planned to happen before that, despite the fact that Sony usually prefers to go after Microsoft.



No specific date has been suggested but that may simply be because Sony hasn’t decided yet, as these events can often be changed and rescheduled at very short notice.



However, the prediction is that it will take place before Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest , which is scheduled for June 8.



The claim was first made by website VGC , which claims the event could happen on the week of May 25. Typically State of Play events take place on a Thursday, which is the 25th.



The suggestion was corroborated by American journalist Jeff Grubb, who lays out the entire schedule of preview events for the rest of the year – with Sony, unusually, being the first to go.



Neither source makes any prediction of what will be featured during the event, with the only real clue being recent rumours about a PlayStation exclusive Metal Gear Solid 3 remake .







Sony currently has very few games announced but as well as the Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine games they are known to be working on several live service titles, which is thought to include The Last Of Us multiplayer spin-off.



However, many of Sony’s first party studios have not confirmed what they’re currently working on and potentially there are half a dozen or more new exclusives waiting to be announced.
