Another full price game is getting multiple battle passes but Lego 2K Drive promises not to invoke any arbitrary time limits.



While season and battle passes are typical of free-to-play live service games, many full price games, like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , have them as well, demanding your full attention lest you miss out on limited time extras.



As such, it’s easy to be apprehensive when 2K announces that its upcoming Lego racer, Lego 2K Drive , will feature at least four such battle passes – or drive passes as it calls them – lasting until next spring.



However, in a welcome change from the norm, 2K stresses that none of these drive passes will ever expire, allowing you to unlock everything at your own pace.



The drive passes do otherwise work like most other battle passes. There are 100 tiers of unlockables to progress through and there are paid-for premium versions that contain extra content.



The lack of a time limit, though, means you’re under no pressure to grind drive pass levels for hours on end to make sure you get a particular unlockable before it’s lost forever.



Plus, it means anyone who picks up the game later down the line isn’t going to have missed months of content that may never come back.

Battle passes tend to make their money through FOMO (fear of missing out) so, while a low bar, it’s nice to see 2K not following the same trend and taking its players’ best interests into account.



Lego 2K Drive isn’t the first to handle things like this. For as unpopular as it may be, Halo Infinite ’s multiplayer also doesn’t let its battle passes expire ; a fact that was pushed as something of a selling point ahead of launch.



With any luck, more games with battle or season passes will follow suit, although that does hinge on Lego 2K Drive being profitable enough to prove that it’s financially viable.

As for what Lego 2K Drive is actually offering, each drive pass will contain ‘new drivers, stickers, flairs, sounds, and more.’ Each pass can be bought individually as they come out (the first arrives in June) but you can buy all four together to get an *Awesome Pizza Vehicle* and 550 coins to spend in-game.



Given it’s called the Year 1 Drive Pass, 2K clearly hopes to support the game for years to come. It’ll be interesting to see if Lego 2K Drive warrants such faith but the first trailer was encouraging.



Lego 2K Drive launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on May 19.
