EA Sports FC leak reveals FUT style Icons and Heroes – from Zico to Bobby Charlton

EA Sports FC leak reveals FUT style Icons and Heroes – from Zico to Bobby Charlton
FIFA 23 – former women football players are apparently slated for EA Sports FC’s Ultimate Team mode (pic: EA Sports)

FIFA 24 may not be happening but FIFA Ultimate Team still is, even if it has to change its name for EA Sports FC.

The age of FIFA leaks is over. Now begins the age of EA Sports FC leaks. EA may have changed the name and severed its partnership with the FIFA organisation , but that hasn’t stopped dedicated FIFA leakers from sharing purported info for the first instalment of EA’s FIFA successor.

Official info is expected to drop this July, possibly at some kind of E3 style showcase, but so far all EA has shared is the game’s name and a rather weird looking new logo .

In lieu of any details from EA, the usual FIFA leakers claim to possess inside info on the game, with the latest being a selection of EA Sports FC Icons and Heroes, suggesting that EA is retaining some branding from the FIFA games.

As a reminder, Icons and Heroes are simply two different types of particularly famous footballers (be they current or from years gone by) which you can acquire for FIFA’s microtransaction heavy Ultimate Team mode.

Given how much money EA makes from the Ultimate Team mode, it’s safe to assume that it and its associated mechanics and branding are being kept for EA Sports FC.

After all, it’s only the FIFA licence and access to the World Cup EA has lost. Otherwise, EA Sports FC is expected to remain the exact same game .

As for the list of players, it comes courtesy of Twitter account FUTSheriff , a proven source of reliable FIFA leaks.

They only name 22 players, but they add that it’s not the full list and it’s in ‘testing,’ which could mean they may not all be available at launch.

I am not bothered to rush into leak ICONS and Heroes that will feature EA FC. There is a big list of players in the game, but this is not the final one. Can’t say exactly number but its half of the big list. — Fut Sheriff (@FutSheriff) April 25, 2023

Another FIFA leaks account, FIFAUTeam , also claims to know the identities of some of EA Sports FC’s Icons and Heroes, listing several in the last 24 hours.

A couple match up with FUTSheriff’s list (Bobby Charlton and Zico), but the rest are entirely different, like former Chinese player Sun Wen and former American player Mia Hamm.

Just so you know, the accompanying images don’t appear to be leaked directly from the game, as their stats are just FIFAUTeam’s own predictions.

🚨 EXCLUSIVE Leak WOMEN ICONS are coming to FUT and we already have the first name! 🇨🇳 Sun Wen has been confirmed to join EA FC 24, but it is still uncertain whether she will be featured as an Icon or a Hero. 🚨 EXCLUSIVE Leak 🇺🇸 Mia Hamm is coming to EA FC 24! She should be a new Women’s Icon. Predicted Stats For more leaks follow @FIFAUTeam , @nickycai2 , and @EAFCInsider pic.twitter.com/cSv9tpyh2l — FIFAUTeam (@FIFAUTeam) April 24, 2023

Their inclusion also suggests that, for the first time, there will be women Icons for the Ultimate Team mode, which is perfectly believable given EA’s recent push to include women’s football in FIFA 23 .

While EA Sports FC is presumed to be launching by the end of the year, the FIFA organisation aims to make its own football games with its branding, but it’s been implied their first effort won’t arrive until 2024 .

They’ve yet to announce a new development partner but there were rumblings of 2K being interested in buying the FIFA licence , although nothing has been confirmed.
