Dead Island 2 – better late than never (pic: Deep Silver)



Not only are zombies more popular than Minecraft this week but Advance Wars 1+2 has enjoyed a surprisingly good debut at number three.



It’s been clear for a while that there’s not much enthusiasm anywhere, for spin-off Minecraft Legends , and in the end it’s been beaten by Dead Island 2 in the retail charts, and only just beaten remake compilation Advance Wars 1+2 .



The retail charts tend to favour more mass market releases and yet still Minecraft Legends couldn’t outdo Dead Island 2, which becomes the third biggest launch of the year so far – behind Hogwarts Legacy and Resident Evil 4. It sold half of what Resident Evil 4 did at launch but did a lot better than more serious horror game Dead Space.



Although there are no sales figures, Advance Wars 1+2 was only a little behind Minecraft Legends, and almost made the number two spot, which has got to be seen as a triumph by Nintendo and could even pave the way for new sequels.
