Xbox is working on a secret sequel that could take 10 years to make

Court documents relating to the Activision Blizzard acquisition have aired another secret Microsoft didn’t want know, but what is the mystery game?

The problem with lawsuits is that they often involve companies having to admit things in public that they’re either trying to keep secret or which contradict something they’ve said before, like when Microsoft recently had to admit that Game Pass does have an adverse effect on traditional game sales .

Now it’s happened again, with Microsoft documents making reference to a mysterious sequel that could take up to a decade to complete.

It almost feels like Fable has been that long already but the fact that the game isn’t named implies that its existence is purposefully being kept a secret.

The reason it’s mentioned at all is that Microsoft was trying to explain that modern AAA games take a long time to make, with Halo Infinite given as another example.

Then comes the mention of the mystery game: ‘According to one Microsoft executive, [redacated], a forthcoming title from the [redacted] franchise, may take a decade to develop.’

The Elder Scrolls 6 is one possibility for what they could be talking about, except that was announced even before Microsoft bought Bethesda, so there’s no reason not to just mention it by name.

Fallout 5 is perhaps a better fit, as while Bethesda has briefly talked about it they’ve never officially confirmed it’s in active development.

Previous court documents also revealed that Bethesda has a secret third game in development, which some have guessed might be a third Doom title, although potentially it could be anything.

It could be a comeback for Brute Force or Blinx for all we know, although that’s probably not very likely.

The document in question comes from the lawsuit started by 10 video game fans in California, which Sony controversially helped by supplying requested information.

The fans are trying to block the Activision Blizzard acquisition but at the moment it doesn’t seem likely that anything will stop that.
