The rumours have finally been proven true and Warner Bros. has announced that the Suicide Squad game has been delayed… until February.



The February State of Play wasn’t popular with fans for a number of reasons, not least because of the lacklustre showing for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, the eternally delayed comic book co-op game from the makers of the Batman: Arkham series.



Soon after the reception of the game became clear, reliable sources reported that it had been delayed , but publisher Warner Bros. never confirmed anything… until now.



What was supposed to be out on May 26 will now be released on February 2, 2024. That is a substantial delay and yet it’s still unclear what, if anything, will actually change.



Fan complaints have been two-fold, starting with the fact that the game seems to contain lots of vestigial live service elements, including the requirement to be always online.



The second problem is that it just didn’t look very good, with generic action, some strange usage of the source material, and a number of eye-rolling gameplay cliches – like shooting flashing weak spots to defeat enemies.

Predictably, the brief announcement tweet makes no mention of any of that and merely offers the following explanation:



‘We have made the tough but necessary decision to take the time needed to work on getting the game to be the best quality experience for players. Thank you to our amazing community for the continued support, patience, and understanding. There is much more to share in the months ahead and we look forward to seeing you in Metropolis next year.’



A delay of eight months sounds like it would mean significant changes but that’s not necessarily guaranteed.







Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who started the original rumour, offered a follow-up last month in which he predicted a 2024 delay was ‘very possible’ but that ‘the core game isn’t changing.’



He wasn’t even necessarily referring to removing the remaining live service elements (although we’re willing to bet the always online requirement will be axed) but that the delay is ‘mainly for polish.’



Eight months implies a lot of polish, but the exit of a number of Rocksteady’s senior staff last year suggests some major behind the scenes problems that are going to need a lot of time to sort out.
