Star Wars Jedi: Survivor final trailer confirms Coruscant but it’s not open world

EA is still keeping story details for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor vague even as it airs one last trailer ahead of its launch this month.

We remain surprised by how coy EA and Respawn are being when it comes to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor , at least in terms of its plot.

While gameplay details and footage have been teased before, next to nothing about the actual story has been shared, with the final trailer continuing to not answer any of the major questions… like what you’re doing and who the bad guy is.

That said, a couple of new details can be gleamed from the new trailer and the game’s director has also confirmed a new location for the sequel – one fans of the prequel films will be intimately familiar with.

The most eye-catching part of the trailer is a speeder bike chase, which looks like it could a fun and frantic set piece as Cal is pursued by the Empire.

There’s a moment where he is locking blades with an enemy, only to shove them back and, using the Force, throw them into the path of an oncoming TIE Fighter. Although it’s difficult to tell if this is something you can perform in gameplay or if it’s some kind of scripted event.

There’s also footage of a boss fight against new baddie Rayvis. He was already revealed in a previous trailer and was later confirmed to be a member of the Gen’Dai race.

Fans of the original Clone Wars cartoon by Genndy Tartakovsky (which was rendered non-canon by George Lucas) will recall it featured a Gen’Dai bounty hunter called Durge as one of its antagonists.

Although it seems Rayvis and Durge aren’t explicitly connected, you can expect the former to be an incredibly tough opponent, maybe even a recurring boss fight.

That’s because the Gen’Dai race are deemed nigh unkillable thanks to a lack of vital organs and powerful regenerative abilities. Durge was so tough that he was only killed by being thrown into a star.

During the recent Star Wars Celebration event, director Stig Asmussen revealed that Coruscant, a prominent location from the prequel era and beyond, will appear in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as well.

Coruscant was where big baddie Emperor Palpatine took control of the Galactic Senate, which helped kick off his scheme to establish the Empire and take over the galaxy.

The very first teaser trailer for the game did suggest Coruscant would be featured, as it included a new Pau’an (the same species as the Grand Inquisitor) character who was implied to be one of the main adversaries. Oddly, he never seems to have been mentioned again in any of the subsequent trailers, so his true role, like so much of the game, remains a mystery.

Given Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s place in the timeline, this means Coruscant won’t be the friendliest of locations, since it’s still under the Empire’s control. Unless you manage to run into Luthen Rael, as the game is set at roughly the same time as shows such as Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

There was a misconception that Coruscant would be a freely open world to explore but communications lead Andy McNamara soon clarified this isn’t the case.

It does sound like it’ll be a pretty big environment though and perhaps similar to how it’s handled in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga .

To be clear, Stig never claimed Coruscant was a “freely explorable open world.” He only confirmed it as one of the destinations in the game. Survivor has amazing planets to explore and our biggest environments to date but wanted to be clear on what was said. Thx! https://t.co/fCjGhIZjt0 — Andy McNamara (@TheRealAndyMc) April 9, 2023
