Fallout: New Vegas – why won’t they bring it back? (pic: Bethesda)



Bethesda still hasn’t made their plans for the Fallout 4 PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update clear but New Vegas does seem to be a part of it.



Given the effort that publishers go to in order to keep their secrets it’s always bizarre how most leaks are entirely their fault, with half of the information that ever escapes being due to peculiarly descriptive job ads or references datamined from existing games .



Fans have been asking for a sequel to 2010 game Fallout : New Vegas for over a decade now and while developer Obsidian has hinted that a remaster might be a possibility they’ve insisted they don’t have time for a sequel .



It seems unlikely anyone else would be given the job, since Microsoft now owns both Bethesda and Obsidian, and yet fans have discovered that Fallout 4 has added a new branch to the backend of Fallout 4 on Steam that’s called newvegas2 .



A new branch usually appears when developers are getting read to add new content, like DLC, but it’s a mystery as to what this refers to, as the only new addition to Fallout 4 that’s been announced is its long delayed next gen update.



Whatever the branch was Bethesda has already deleted it, which only deepens the mystery. However, while it could possibly have something to do with a remaster it seems very unlikely it’s related to a sequel – despite the name.



The most likely explanation is that it’s a reference to Creation Club content: DLC and mods made by fans and added to the remaster as an extra bonus.



The Skyrim Anniversary Edition added content that referenced older Elder Scrolls games, such as Morrowind and Oblivion, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the next gen update for Fallout 4 added items from New Vegas.

That doesn’t explain why they’d call the branch newvegas2 but one Creation Club item already in the store is an anti-materiel rifle from New Vegas, so it’s probably DLC like that which will be added to the game.



It is all a bit peculiar though and it seems long past time that Bethesda should have made its plans for New Vegas clear, even if it is only just a remaster. At the very least it’d be nice if they announced a release date for Fallout 4’s next gen update, but it’s still only down for sometime this year.
