As fans wait to see the new footage from Zelda : Tears Of The Kingdom it’s rumoured today’s news will include a new console model.
Nintendo leaks don’t happen very often but it’s been obvious for months now that Nintendo has a special edition of the Switch OLED console ready to unveil for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom – the only question is when they’ll announce it.
The answer seems to be today, with a GameStop employee on Reddit claiming that a new Switch SKU (stockkeeping unit) was added to the company’s system, apparently in readiness for the Nintendo livestream at 3pm BST.
Asked to provide proof, they took a photo of GameStop’s listing, which includes the new item ‘HW TBD’ – hardware to be determined. Today already seemed the obvious time to announce it, even without a new leak, with the only question now being how much it costs.
Based on the leaked photos the new Switch has two golden Joy-Cons with a Zelda-esque pattern that carries over to the dock, which also has a gold Tri-Force symbol on it.
The specific design of the pattern also showed up in an official image of some Tears Of The Kingdom promotional badges, which is why everyone is so certain the leak is real.
Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom is set to be released on May 12, so today’s livestream is likely to be the last preview before its launch.
It’s not technically a Nintendo Direct though, as no other games are expected to be discussed, although it is possible there will be other related Zelda merchandise or reveals.
The date is obviously a placeholder (pic: Reddit)
