Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Nintendo Direct trailer confirms no price rise

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Nintendo Direct trailer confirms no price rise

The latest, and possibly last, trailer for the new Zelda reveals new gameplay features and enemies, and thankfully no increase in price.

Everyone knew it was going to be a major part of Wednesday night’s Nintendo Direct but while The Legend Of Zelda : Tears Of The Kingdom did round out the 44 minute long showcase we really didn’t learn that much more about it.

Surprisingly, there was no mention of the already leaked Zelda-themed Switch and despite leaks revealing that the game will be $70 in the US (a $10 increase on Breath Of The Wild) the game will still only be £59.99 in the UK, the same price as its predecessor.

On other consoles, games that are $70 in the US are usually always £70 here, so this is an unexpected act of generosity on Nintendo’s part. Although they’ll no doubt be looking to make extra money via the newly revealed Collector’s Edition.

The Collector’s Edition doesn’t seem to be listed anywhere in the UK yet, but it includes a SteelBook, a set of four badges (or ‘pins’ as Americans would have it), an Iconart steel poster, and an artbook. It’s priced at $129.99 in the US, which works out as £108 here.

As for what can be gleaned from the trailer itself, your guess is as good as ours really, especially in terms of the still opaque story, which seems to involve a bunch of new and old enemies sweeping across Hyrule and what might be Ganondorf insisting that they, ‘Leave no survivors!’

The trailer was actually rather short and while there wasn’t much on the story you could make out a cool new ability to power metal vehicles, including what looks like a truck, a drone, and a balloon.

This seems to be an upgrade for the existing Magnesis ability, and is likely inspired by fans who managed to use it to fly across the map in Breath Of The Wild.

There’s also what looks like some kind of new slingshot weapon, homing arrows, and a bit where Link is grinding his shield along a train track.

Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom will launch on May 12, this year, and pre-orders are open now on the Nintendo website and eShop.
