The rumours were right and there will be a Nintendo Direct this week, focusing on games that will be released in the first half of the year.

Nintendo Directs are just about the only thing that’s predictable about Nintendo, in terms of when they happen, as there’s almost always one early in the year.

Rumours had previously suggested that it would be this week and that’s exactly what Nintendo has just confirmed. Although it’s tomorrow, Wednesday, February 8 rather than the normal Thursday.

Whether there’s any special significance in that is not clear but the only detail Nintendo is offering is that that it will focus on games out between now and June, which is clearly going to include Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom – since it’s out in May.

Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe (a Wii remaster) and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza And The Lost Demon (a third party spin-off) are already dated for February and March, respectively, but beyond Zelda the only other Nintendo game confirmed for this year is Pikmin 4.

There’s no indication yet when Pikmin 4 will be released, so if it’s in the second half of the year it may not be included in this Nintendo Direct.

However, the rumours have suggested that remake Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp will be featured, after it was delayed by a year because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

We wouldn’t start taking Nintendo rumours as fact, just because one was right, but if they don’t talk about Advance Wars, and presumably a few other unannounced titles, it’s not clear what they will do to fill the 40 minutes.

Given the length, and the fact that it’s not until 10pm in the UK (which makes for a better time for the US) suggests this will be an important one though…

Tune in at 10PM (UK time) tomorrow, 08/02, for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 40 minutes of information mostly focused on #NintendoSwitch games launching in the first half of 2023.
