Turkish-American Twitch streamer HasanAbi said he’ll do ‘anything he can’ to help those affected by the devastating earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria .

A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake happened by the border of Turkey and Syria in the early hours of February 6, causing the death of more than 5,000 people .

Search teams have been dispatched from all over the world, though given the severity of the situation the number of emergency crews on the ground are fewer than required.

In a bid to support people through the aftermath of this tragic natural disaster, HasanAbi swiftly began fundraising for four charities.

He broadcasted live from Twitch for nine hours and managed to raise $550,000 (£457,000) in donations that will be passed on to those charities.

The streamer later reposted the link to his fundraiser on Twitter, with many fellow streamers and fans praising his efforts and proceeding to donate.

While he now resides in Los Angeles, Hasanabi lived in Turkey for several years while he was younger, as he’s born to two Turkish parents.

In the same stream he also revealed he went through a similar experience when he was living in Istanbul as a child.

The Turkish capital was hit by an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude in 1999, when the streamer was only eight years old.

‘I’m Turkish. I lived through the 1999 earthquake in Istanbul. I know how f***ing devastating that s*** is. I wanted to raise funds for it,’ Hasanabi said during his stream.

Hasanabi isn’t the only Twitch streamer looking to help people in Turkey and Syria. Posting to Twitter, Trainwrecks inquired about ‘legitimate charities’ to donate to, pledging to give $150,000 (£123,000).

Turkish Twitch streamer Kirmizikep, who worried viewers after his stream was cut short because of the earthquake , has also posted on Twitter that he’s alive and well.

The block of flats he lived in collapsed after the earthquake but he and the rest of his household managed to ‘miraculously’ get out.

‘From the 7th floor of the building at the back, we were able to get out miraculously, thanks to the undamaged stairs,’ the streamer wrote.
