Apex Legends Season 16 trailer reveals new weapon, Team Deathmatch mode and more

Apex Legends Season 16 trailer reveals new weapon, Team Deathmatch mode and more

The first trailer for Apex Legends Season 16 has finally dropped, confirming some big changes are coming to the game.

After a long and admittedly underwhelming 15th season, Apex Legends is turning over a new leaf, with several major changes now just days away.

As suspected, Season 16 is scheduled to go live on Valentine’s Day, which falls on Tuesday, February 14 – just in time for the game’s fourth anniversary, too.

From a new mode to a new weapon, as well as a total class overhaul, let’s see if you could spot all the changes coming to Season 16…

No new legend will join Apex Legends in Season 16

First things first, one of the biggest changes this season is that there won’t be a new character added to the game… or at least, not judging from the launch trailer.

This has been a widely debated subject, as many players worry the game already has too many characters (there’s 23 at the moment).

For now, developers seem to agree with this notion, and have decided to slow things down for the next three months.

It’s also been confirmed that the new season will be called Revelry , just as many leakers predicted.

Team Deathmatch mode is confirmed

The second biggest revelation is the addition of a brand new Team Deathmatch mode, similar to the one Call Of Duty players know all too well.

In Apex Legends, Team Deathmatch will follow a 6v6 format and you’ll be able to play it on certain areas on World’s Edge and Olympus, according to the trailer.

The goal of this mode is for your team to score points by killing enemies. The team that scores the most points, usually within a five-minute period, is considered the winner.

It’s possible that this mode will be a permanent addition to the game, as well-known leakers have claimed that Arenas will soon shut down once and for all.

Two new hero classes shown in Apex Legends Season 16 trailer

The next big thing that’s coming with Season 16 is a total class overhaul. If you keep your eyes peeled, you’ll be able to spot one legend has been listed as Skirmisher type on their banner.

The banner is visible when the camera points to Vantage, Horizon and Fuse, at the beginning of the trailer, when all the characters are celebrating together.

The other classes are Support, Assault, Recon, as well as Controller – as seen on the other banners in the same scene.

Mad Maggie is the only one listed as Failed Rebel, though that’s likely a joke and a reference to her lore, rather than a real class.

Maps get an anniversary themed makeover

As the characters are battling it out in the new mode, you can also see that World’s Edge and Olympus have received a rather celebratory makeover.

There are colourful banners everywhere, as well as huge balloons of fan favourite legends Mirage, Lifeline, and Pathfinder in chibi form.

This possibly indicates that an anniversary event will also launch with Season 16, meaning new limited edition skins and cosmetics will be added to the game.

New beacons and new energy weapon

Another subtle change that you can spot if you’re eagle-eyed is the introduction of new beacons, that certain legends can scan.

Specifically, the trailer shows Vantage using a flower-like beacon that seems to alert her of enemy Horizon and Fuse’s presences.

This likely indicates that Recon characters will be the ones able to use these panels to scan for nearby enemies, similar to how Bloodhound’s tactical ability operates.

However, given that Vantage is surprised by Fuse’s presence, it’s possible this mechanism won’t work against all characters…

Towards the end of the trailer, you get a glimpse of Lifeline shooting through what seems to be a brand new weapon.

Given its similarity to the existing Havoc Rifle, don’t be too surprised if you need to load it with energy ammo, too.

The Volt SMG is the last energy weapon to be added to Apex Legends, and it came out all the way back in Season 6 – unless you count the Triple Take switching to energy from sniper ammo.

So far, this is all that’s been confirmed through the launch trailer of Season 16. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the new weapon in the Season 16 gameplay trailer going live on Wednesday, February 8.
