Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp – what should’ve been our 2022 game of the year looks to be our 2023 game of the year instead (pic: Nintendo)



Fans suspect a Nintendo Direct is incoming thanks to new pre-order listings for the long-delayed Advance Wars remake.



It’s easy to think that Advance Wars is cursed. When the first game launched in the US, it came just a day before the September 11 attacks, which led to it being significantly delayed in other regions.



Then, just as the Nintendo Switch remake was about to launch, Russia invaded Ukraine , prompting Nintendo to delay it indefinitely . The game has remained absent at every subsequent Nintendo Direct, as if the company was pretending it didn’t exist anymore.



At one point, Nintendo did assure fans that it hasn’t cancelled the game and while there’s still no new release date, it looks like we may finally get one soon, as pre-orders for it have gone live at select retailers.



As a quick reminder, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two Advance Wars games, which were originally released for the Game Boy Advance.



A pair of turn-based strategy games, they’re developed by Intelligent Systems, the same studio behind the Fire Emblem series.



Pre-order listings for the game can now be found on retail websites across the US, Canada, Spain, Italy, Mexico, China, and Japan.

None of them mention a release date, but the fact that they’ve come back indicates that Nintendo at least has a new date in mind.



In fact, we checked Amazon’s UK website and found a listing for Advance Wars that says it will launch on December 31. This is clearly a placeholder, but that still means Nintendo is likely aiming to have it out before the end of the year.

While Nintendo could always just drop an announcement via social media, fans believe that a release date is most likely to be revealed at a Nintendo Direct showcase. Nintendo often holds one in January or February, so that’s certainly plausible.



Plus, it’d be the perfect time to highlight the games it’s releasing over the next few months, such as Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza And The Lost Demon, and The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of the Kingdom.



Whether it’d announce any new games, for later in 2023, is harder to guess but hopefully it won’t be long until we find out for sure.
