Firaxis Games’ Jake Solomon insists that there is no XCOM 3 in development despite the 2021 Nvidia leak suggesting otherwise.



It’s been nearly seven years since the superb XCOM 2 and while there was the Chimera Squad spin-off in 2020, it wasn’t a full-fledged sequel and is still exclusive to PC, with no plans to bring it to consoles. Which is making us, and other XCOM fans, very itchy for a new game.



There have been rumours of an XCOM 3 ever since the big Nvidia leak from 2021 listed it among a bunch of unannounced games; almost all of which have since been proven real.



For the time being, though, XCOM’s own creative director has said that no such sequel is in the works. At least, not right now.



Jake Solomon has been with Firaxis since 2000, becoming creative director for the XCOM series with the 2012 reboot XCOM: Enemy Unknown .



He fills the same role on Marvel’s Midnight Suns , which he admits is still his main priority since it has three more DLC characters to add. The first, Deadpool, released just yesterday, on January 26.



Speaking with VGC , Solomon says he’s well aware of the demand for a new XCOM, but he knows nothing about the current state of the series.



‘I personally have no information on that right now and I say that because, truly, yesterday I was working on Morbius’ abbey outfits and recolours, so I am not working on it. I don’t have any secret agenda, I don’t know anything about XCOM at this point,’ he said.



The Midnight Suns DLC will keep Firaxis busy for a while, since each new character comes with their own story missions, cut scenes, costumes, and gameplay mechanics.



There’s also no schedule for the remaining three characters – Venom, Storm, and Morbius – nor are there release dates for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions. So, there’s no telling when development on the game will wrap up completely.

That all said, Solomon never refutes that an XCOM 3 could happen. In fact, in another VGC interview, from only last year, he assured fans that the series would continue, saying, ‘As long as I live, as long as Firaxis lives, XCOM is… I won’t even say sleeping. I will say XCOM is definitely not dead.’



At the very least, an XCOM sequel seems more likely than another Midnight Suns. Firaxis blatantly teases the possibility in a post-credits scene but, while there are no sales figures, the fact that the game was discounted just a month after launch suggests it hasn’t sold very well.
