Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty – is that in spite of or because it’ll feature two prominent celebrity actors? (pic: CD Projekt)



CD Projekt is pumping more money into Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC than any previous expansion its done, as it finally settles its investor lawsuit.



After its infamous 2020 launch, CD Projekt has long since managed to redeem Cyberpunk 2077 in the eyes of many, with its post-launch updates.



Although it sometimes feels like it hasn’t quite learnt its lesson (as suggested by The Witcher 3’s next gen update ), history should hopefully not repeat itself with the release of Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty DLC .



CD Projekt has yet to nail down a more specific release date beyond 2023, but it sounds like it has weighty expectations for the DLC, as it’s set to be the biggest expansion in the studio’s history. This is more so in terms of budget than the actual scale of the expansion though.



With how much money is being put into it, it’s likely to blow previous expansions, like The Witcher 3’s Blood And Wine, out of the water.



That said, there’s no telling how much of that budget has gone into Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba ’s pay cheques. The former is reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand from the main game, while the latter will debut in the DLC as a new character called Solomon Reed.



This comes from CD Projekt’s investor relations manager Marek Bugdoł, who also assured shareholders that development is going according to plan, perhaps implying that fans shouldn’t worry about a delay.



It’s important to remain at least a little sceptical considering CD Projekt made similar comments ahead of the main game’s launch, and we all know how that turned out.



‘We hope that the new adventures and characters will attract those who are already familiar with Cyberpunk and also encourage many new players to start playing Night City,’ Bugdoł told Polish outlet Parkiet (via Google Translate).



He added that interest in Cyberpunk 2077 remained high even in the final quarter of 2022, something that can be credited to the release of the tie-in Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunner.



‘We are very pleased with the statistics showing a high number of players and their positive assessments. Sentiment around the game has clearly improved, which is a good sign before the release of Phantom Liberty,’ he said.

All in all, it seems CD Projekt has recovered much of its reputation over the last couple of years. The lawsuit filed by its own investors was also finally resolved earlier this month, according to Ars Technica .



CD Projekt does need to pay a settlement of $1.85 million (about £1.5 million), but it got off easy considering a consultant for the plaintiffs estimated the maximum potential damages at $11 million (roughly £8.9 million).



Cyberpunk 2077 is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The Phantom Liberty DLC will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
