Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – looks like you’ll need to play sneakier than usual (pic: Activision)



A new trailer from The Game Awards confirms a date for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s first raid and surprisingly little else.



The most prominent Activision Blizzard announcements at last night’s Game Awards were for Diablo 4 ’s release date and the new Crash Bandicoot spin-off, Crash Team Rumble.



However, it couldn’t quite get through the show without announcing something for Call Of Duty, dropping a trailer for an upcoming Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 update .



Said update will introduce the series’ first ever raid, titled Raid Episode 1: Atomgrad, and it arrives in less than a week’s time on Wednesday, December 14.



Raids were announced for Modern Warfare 2 ahead of its launch and while these are commonplace among online multiplayer games like Destiny 2 and Final Fantasy 14, they’re new ground for the Call Of Duty series.



Despite how soon the first raid is coming, though, Activision is keeping cagey about exactly what it’ll entail. The new trailer for it is just a minute long and there are no updates about it on the Call Of Duty website.



At the very least, it looks to be quite a different beast compared to the high-octane firefights of Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer and the Warzone 2 battle royale.



There’s a greater emphasis on stealth, with the characters sneaking up on enemy soldiers and avoiding the searchlights of drones.



It sounds like there’ll be plenty of puzzle solving too, as the trailer description says you must ‘Put your precision, teamwork, and mind to the test.’









Fans will also quickly notice that the raid’s three main characters are John Price, Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick, and Farah Karim, all returning from Modern Warfare 2’s campaign mode.



While both Price and Gaz were main characters in the campaign, only the latter was playable (alongside Soap and Ghost). Farah, meanwhile, was a playable character in the 2019 Modern Warfare , but was delegated to a minor role for the sequel.

Raids are set to continue Modern Warfare 2’s story , but it’s unclear precisely where Price and his team are or what they’re trying to do. Considering Atomgrad is a Russian word that refers to a closed city and Modern Warfare 2’s campaign ended with Russian terrorists about to hijack a plane, you can probably guess where the raid is set.



No doubt Activision will have more information in the coming days and explain how this and future raids will work and what sort of rewards can be acquired from them.



Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
