Diablo 4 – hell hath no fury like an expensive ultimate edition for a game (pic: Blizzard Entertainment)



A cinematic trailer for Diablo 4 has officially confirmed a release date, with early access to the beta included with pre-orders.



Activision Blizzard can’t have been thrilled to see Diablo 4’s launch date of June 5 leaked just days before The Game Awards . Especially since that was all it really had to say about the game.



Admittedly, the leak was off by a day, with the game actually slated for a June 6 release. Although the discrepancy can likely be chalked up to time difference.



The launch date was revealed via a cinematic trailer that didn’t feature any new gameplay, but it did share that pre-orders will net you early access to the open beta.



This was another detail that everyone already expected, thanks to a November report , although now fans have more concrete details.



While Activision hasn’t nailed down a date for the beta yet, nor how long it will last (the fine print says it’ll at least be two days minimum), those who pre-order will be able to start playing four days before everybody else.



Curiously, the listings for the various editions on the game’s official website don’t mention early access as being part of the standard edition. Yet the listing on the PlayStation Store does.



Presumably, there’s just an omission on Activision Blizzard’s part and pre-ordering any version of the game grants you early access.









Each edition also comes with a Light Bearer mount for the game, plus a bunch of cosmetic items for other games like Diablo Immortal and World Of Warcraft.



The digital deluxe edition adds Diablo 4’s seasonal battle pass, while the ultimate edition throws in a premium seasonal battle pass and even unlocks the first 20 tiers of content.



Unsurprisingly, the ultimate edition is the most expensive of the lot, costing £99.99. The digital deluxe edition is only marginally cheaper at £89.99, while the standard is £69.99.

The new trailer was preceded by singer/songwriter Halsey doing a performance of a tie-in song titled Lillith (named after Diablo 4’s villain). It was barely two minutes long, though, so we’re assuming this was just a preview of the full song.



From the sound of it, this collaboration isn’t a one off either and Halsey will continue to promote the game up to its release.



‘As soon as Diablo 4 was announced, I knew I wanted to be a part of the lead-up and launch,’ she said. ‘The Game Awards’ performance for the launch date announcement is just the beginning of what Blizzard Entertainment and I have in store. A lot of exciting things coming for Halsey fans, Diablo fans and the crossover; waiting for Lilith’s embrace.’



Diablo 4 launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on June 6.
