Fortnite Chapter 3 finale: Fracture event start time and what to expect

Fortnite Chapter 3 finale: Fracture event start time and what to expect

You can expect another major shake-up following Fortnite Chapter 3’s finale event this weekend, as Chapter 4 looms.

Even though it only began last December, Fortnite Chapter 3 is already close to wrapping up after just four seasons, making it easily the shortest chapter in the battle royale’s history.

Fans will likely never get an official explanation from Epic Games about why it’s already moving onto Chapter 4, but that only makes the upcoming season finale event even more intriguing.

With said event close to dropping, here’s a rundown of everything you need to know beforehand and answers to any pressing questions you may have about the event and what’s to follow.

Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 4 finale – what time does the Fracture event begin?

The finale event, called Fracture, is scheduled for tomorrow on Saturday, December 3 at 4pm ET, which is 9pm GMT for UK players.

A new trailer is scheduled to go live about an hour afterwards on the official Fortnite YouTube channel.

The thumbnail doesn’t provide many hints, only depicting the battle bus floating through outer space (at least we assume its outer space) and the video description reading ‘Don’t fall to pieces… fight for the fate of the Island.’

You’ll be able to jump in 30 minutes prior to the event’s start, if you don’t want to risk missing out. Plus, it’ll give you the opportunity to join up with friends, although you can only form parties of up to four people.

Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 4 finale – what will happen during the Fracture event?

Surprisingly, unlike with most Fortnite announcements, it seems very little about the finale has leaked ahead of time. Or at the very least, nothing major or particularly spoilery.

As such, the details remain a mystery, although Epic Games has shared plenty of teasers.

There’s mention of the island deteriorating and players needing to ‘reforge’ it, which will obviously explain why the map will look different in Chapter 4.

Every chapter has seen the map undergo a radical change. Chapter 1 ended with the original island being destroyed and replaced with a new one for Chapter 2, which in turn ended with the island being flipped upside down for Chapter 3.

A teaser trailer that contains what are presumably clips of the cinematic trailer has this same shattering effect, ending with artwork of people being sucked into giant tornados that appear to be responsible for the island’s destruction.

Perhaps players will get to experience the island being destroyed as they play, with chunks of it being ripped apart by the tornados.

Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 4 finale – when will Chapter 4 start?

Epic Games hasn’t shared how long the Fracture event will last but, given Fortnite’s track record, fans can make some educated guesses.

What will likely happen is that Fracture will last until at least the day after on Sunday, December 4. While this isn’t a guarantee, it could be over by 7:45am, since anyone who logs in before that time will receive a Toasty Roast emote.

This should mean that the event will last for at least 10 hours minimum, although it could go on for longer than that. Chapter 2’s finale event, after all, ran for about 18 hours.

Regardless, once it does end, the game will no doubt go offline for a period and become unplayable. There’s no telling how long that will last, though Epic Games will likely want Chapter 4 to go live on the Sunday too, since more people will be available to play it.

Fortnite will almost certainly be back by Monday but it is hard to tell as changing everything up is not an exact science and Epic Games may run into unexpected delays.

Fortnite is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
