Monster Hunter Rise for PS5 and Xbox is official but still no crossplay

Monster Hunter Rise – good news indeed (pic: Capcom)

Following a couple of leaks, Capcom has admitted it’s bringing Monster Hunter Rise to PlayStation and Xbox consoles next month.

Just a couple days ago, it was claimed that Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise would see a PlayStation and Xbox port in January.

It was also suggested that Capcom wouldn’t announce it until either December 7 or December 8, the latter date being the same day as The Game Awards.

If this was the case, something must’ve changed behind the scenes as Capcom dropped the news itself late last night, adding a specific release date of January 20.

Capcom’s announcement corroborates the previous report as it confirms ports for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, as well as the game being on Game Pass.

Plus, it’ll be available for PC users via Windows. Currently, PC users can only download the game through Steam.

It’s worth noting that the news first broke via the German Xbox Twitter account yesterday afternoon, although it was soon deleted. No doubt because it shared it too early.

Unless Capcom was already planning to announce it that day, the leak may have influenced it to just make it official rather than wait any longer. Whether that means it is going to be at The Game Awards or not is unclear.

A new trailer and Capcom’s website add that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will be able to run at 60 frames per second even at a 4k resolution, as well as boast 3D audio support.

As for the Sunbreak expansion, it won’t be available at launch, but is already scheduled for the spring. So, fans will only need to wait about two to four months.

Unfortunately, despite the game coming to even more platforms, it seems Capcom still has no intention of adding crossplay or cross-progression.

These features were already lacking in the Nintendo Switch and Steam versions, and their absence means current players can’t transfer their saves and will need to start over from the beginning if they pick up the game a second time.

Also, the only other people you can play with are those using the same platform as you. Although the small print on Capcom’s website mentions that PlayStation 4 and 5 owners can match with each other for multiplayer.
