Elon Musk hasn’t managed to convince MrBeast that Twitter could rival YouTube , as the head twit hints at new video plans.



Ever since Elon Musk bought Twitter, there have been some insane moments on the platform, including a doctored image of Super Mario giving his fans the bird , posted on an ‘official’ Nintendo account. 



The tech mogul has announced a bunch of changes happening soon, with even a possible Vine reboot on the cards. If that ever becomes a reality, Vine would be a strong contender for a TikTok killer, if it were to go through a new golden age, but that’s quite a big if.



In terms of challenging other social media platforms, Musk seems to think that Twitter could rival YouTube soon, although YouTube star MrBeast isn’t quite so sure.



The two men had an interesting interaction on Twitter after MrBeast replied to one of Elon Musk’s posts about the platform boasting 1.6 million active users.  



This led to MrBeast wondering how the ‘all-time high’ number compares to YouTube in terms of content creation. 



Surprisingly, Musk quickly noticed MrBeast’s tweet and implied that there could be something in the works that challenges YouTube in that respect.

MrBeast seemed quite nonchalant, as he replied to Musk’s suggestion by saying that ‘higher compensation will be hard.’ 



He then proceeded to explain that some YouTubers earn around £16-17 in RPMs, which stands for revenue per mille, aka per 1,000 views.



MrBeast pointed out that this amount can be true even after YouTube takes its cut, meaning that popular creators could be earning around £16,700 per 1 million views. 



If this were to apply to MrBeast, his most-viewed video has around 308 million views, meaning that he could have made more than £5,000,000 from it – and that’s just one video.

Seeing that Twitter was made with text-based posts in mind, it does seem difficult for Musk to offer any real competition.



There are plans to monetise other aspects of Twitter though, so maybe Musk has big plans for video. Or maybe he’s just saying the first thing that comes into his head, which seems to happen a lot with him.
