Young Minecraft fans bring dream cricket stadium to life for The Hundred

The Hundred has commissioned a new stadium made in Minecraft , featuring design ideas from kids including a rooftop garden and a moat.

Minecraft has been entertaining children for over a decade now, transcending the description of mere video game to become a massive platform for social interaction and education.

Every child, and parent, knows what it is, and many have learnt to use it to create things for fun and as a tool in school. Major new Cricket tournament The Hundred has taken advantage of this by enlisting 10 children to design their dream stadium in Minecraft.

Designed to help promote this year’s The Hundred competition, the final design includes elements of all 10 of the finalists’ designs into one mega-stadium, that includes everything from a roller-coaster to a rainbow arch.

The ‘Every Block Counts’ competition invited children to draw or paint their dream stadium and then the top 10 designs were judged by a group of experts including Minecraft expert James Delaney and Birmingham Phoenix women’s team star Issy Wong.

The final design is not only set in space but also includes a roller-coaster, a rooftop nature garden, a moat with sea monsters in it, a rainbow arch, and a see-through wicket.

The stadium is free for anyone to download and use in Minecraft and can be obtained from The Hundred website .

‘It’s been fantastic to see the levels of creativity from this competition. We’ve seen submissions beyond our wildest expectations and the final build truly is a blockbuster cricket stadium,’ said Issy Wong.

‘It’s been incredible to be part of this initiative; another first for The Hundred as it continues to push the limits in sport and entertainment.’

The Hundred 2022 itself starts on August 3, with each game specifically designed to last less than three hours, with other elements to attract a wider audience including live music performances during matches. It’s intended as the perfect summer day out with friends and family of all ages, and already proved hugely popular in its inaugural year in 2021.
