Steam Deck will start shipping next month and every week after that

Steam Deck – some people will get one very soon (pic: Valve)

Valve will start sending out the first batch of Steam Deck handhelds in just a few weeks’ time, but only if you’ve reserved one already.

Like most things, Valve’s Steam Deck was delayed by the pandemic, but it now has a new shipping date of February 28, for those that have already ordered one.

Since the portable PC is going to be in such short supply, Valve has warned customers that they’ll only have 72 hours to respond to the email they get, telling them that the Steam Deck is in stock.

The first batch of those emails is expected to go out on February 25, so make sure you have access to whatever address you used to reserve the Steam Deck, or you could still lose out.

Not everyone who’s reserved a Steam Deck will be in the first wave to get an email, but Valve are planning to release new batches each week.

If you haven’t reserved one before now, your chances of getting one before the end of the summer are limited but you can try your luck here .

There are three models, with the 64GB version costing a very reasonable £349, the 256GB version £459, and the 512GB version £569.

As you can see, the Steam Deck is very much inspired by the design of the Nintendo Switch, although it’s considerably more powerful and can run the majority of PC games to at least some degree.

Not everything will work, and some games won’t perform that well, but Valve has already started updating Steam to indicate whether a game is ‘verified’, ‘playable’, or ‘unsupported’. SteamDB has a list of all the titles that have been checked so far.
