Massive PS5 FAQ confirms 8K resolution and other future plans

If you buy two PS5s, does that make them a PS10 or a PS25? (Pic: Sony)

Sony’s new PlayStation 5 FAQ addresses the PS Plus Collection, the PS4’s updated Remote Play, and much more.

With the PlayStation 5’s launch date edging closer and closer, Sony has released a long and incredibly detailed FAQ to compile all the important information and address any queries prospective owners may have.

While it covers a lot of information that has already been discussed over the last several months, some new details can be gleaned from it, namely things Sony has planned for the future.

The PlayStation 5 is already capable of displaying games in native 4K resolution but Sony wants to go beyond that and make it possible to play games in 8K.

8K resolution won’t be possible at launch (and, obviously, you’ll need an 8K TV) but Sony says it will be part of a future update. It’s not clear when this will happen but the PlayStation 5 will be compatible with 8K displays from day one.

In terms of games, Sony provides extra info about the PlayStation Plus Collection , a compilation of some of the PlayStation 4’s biggest and best first and third party games that will be available to PS Plus subscribers.

Sony already shared the full list before, which includes titles like Uncharted 4 and Persona 5, but it initially wasn’t clear if these games would be upgraded at all for the PlayStation 5. Turns out that is the case.

‘PS4 games redeemed from the PlayStation Plus Collection and played on PS5 will see benefits such as increased loading speed and improved or more stable framerates with PS5’s Game Boost.’

Sony also makes it clear that the collection is only available as long as you’re subscribed to PS Plus. So, you can’t just get a month’s subscription and expect to keep the games forever.

The FAQ also addresses some details that were discovered and reported on earlier today.

For starters, the new Remote Play app that appeared on PlayStation 4 this morning. As many expected, this app will allow you to stream and play PlayStation 5 games on your PlayStation 4 and you can also use Remote Play to access your PlayStation 5 from your PC or mobile device.

In addition, Sony addresses the fact that PlayStation 5 games can’t be stored on a separate USB drive , explaining that they need to be on the internal SSD to work.

However, it does say that it’s looking into changing this in a future update, though you won’t be able to play PlayStation 5 games from a USB drive.

The PlayStation 5 will launch in the UK on November 19 and outside of Europe on November 12.
