Hitman 3 and Control coming to Nintendo Switch thanks to cloud gaming

Control Ultimate Edition – who would’ve expected that on Switch? (pic: 505 Games)

A surprise new Nintendo Direct Mini has announced two new cloud-streaming games for Switch and a delay for Bravely Default 2.

A new Nintendo Direct Mini has suddenly appeared online and while it only covers third party games there are some unexpected surprises in terms of Hitman 3 and Control .

Normally both games would be considered too technically demanding to appear on the Switch but they’re being made available via special cloud-streaming versions.

Nintendo has experimented with cloud gaming before in Japan , with a version of Resident Evil 7, but these announcements have come out of nowhere – literally when it comes to Control, which is available from today for £34.99.

Control Ultimate Edition – Cloud Version runs at 30fps with ray-tracing or 60fps without, so it’s clearly running on hardware far more advanced than the Switch itself. We’d assume a reasonably high-spec PC, but publishers 505 Games hasn’t said yet.

Hitman 3 doesn’t have a release date yet but the other versions are due on 20 January, so hopefully it won’t be too long after that. You can watch the whole Mini Direct below, which is just shy of 20 minutes long, but other announcements include a demo for Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity and a Switch version of HAL Laboratory’s mobile game Part-time Hero.

There’s also some bad news in that Square Enix’s Bravely Default 2 has been delayed until 26 February, which is a shame as it was poised to be Nintendo’s biggest third party exclusive this Christmas.

On a more positive note there’s new Switch versions of No More Heroes 1 and 2, as preparation for the third game’s release next year ( Travis Strikes Again was just a spin-off).

Then rounding things off you’ve got WayForward’s Bakugan: Champions Of Vestroia on November 3, Tropico 6 on November 6, and Story Of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town on March 23.

As ever, there was no clue as to when there’ll be another full fat Nintendo Direct and while it’s looking unlikely there’ll be one this year the surprise release of this Mini shows you can never tell with Nintendo.

Whatever else happens though there is a good chance they’ll reveal something major at The Game Awards in December, given they’ve used it before for big announcements.
