Ubisoft explains PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades for its cross-gen games

Just in case anyone was still confused about what the differences actually are (Pic: Ubisoft)

With several of its games as cross-gen titles, Ubisoft explains what can be expected from the upcoming next gen releases.

Between some new releases like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and already existing titles like Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft has eight games that will become available on both current and next gen consoles.

With all the next gen versions to come with new upgrades only possible on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 , Ubisoft has put out a rather lengthy blog post to explain all the differences players can expect.

First things first, Ubisoft reiterates that if you own any of these games on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, you can upgrade them to their next gen counterparts for free.

Now, onto the actual specifics. Watch Dogs: Legion will have faster load times and ray-tracing on both versions. In fact, it’s the only game on the list to offer ray-tracing at all. Only the PS5 version will have adaptive trigger support and 3D audio support, though.

Unlike Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will run at 60 frames per second at 4K resolution on both Xbox Series X and PS5, but not on Xbox Series S. Both versions will have faster load times and, once again, the PS5 version has 3D audio support.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising on both consoles has faster load times and uses High Dynamic Range technology on compatible screens but, just like Valhalla, it can only run at 60fps at 4K on Xbox Series X and PS5.

Another difference is that the Xbox version has Dolby Atmos and spatial audio technology, whereas the PS5 has 3D audio and DualSense haptic feedback .

Far Cry 6, which will be releasing in February, offers surprisingly little in comparison. In fact, the only difference is that, once again, it will run at 60fps at 4K on Xbox Series X and PS5.

Riders Republic, another February launch, has the same framerate offerings, as well as faster load times and HDR support on both consoles.

As for the two games already out, Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor, the former breaks the trend so far and will offer 120fps on both consoles, including the Xbox Series S.

For Honor , meanwhile, only has 60fps at 4K on Xbox Series X and PS5, but Xbox Series S owners will be able to experience 60fps at 1080p.

And lastly, Just Dance 2021 won’t have any significant next gen upgrades, with the only thing its offering being the free upgrade for anyone who owns it on current consoles.
