Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition runs at 120fps or 60fps with ray-tracing

The next gen special editions of Devil May Cry 5 have a total of four different graphical options to favour resolution or frame rate.

Although some have tried to paint it as a positive, in that at least you’re given a choice, one of the first disappointments of the next generation has been that no game seems to be able to run at both 4K and 60fps with advanced graphical techniques such as ray-tracing.

Many titles, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are instead forced to offer an option, focusing on either native 4K resolution or 60 frames per second gameplay.

Devil May Cry 5 is in the same boat but instead of two options it’s got four, one of which allows for both 60fps and ray-tracing at the same time – as long as you’re okay with a 1080p resolution.

Capcom hasn’t officially announced the details, but marketing and digital platforms VP William Yagi-Bacon posted the details on ResetEra , which are apparently the same on both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

The four options are:

4K and 30fps with ray-tracing on 1080p and 60fps with ray-tracing on 4K and 60fps with ray-tracing off ‘Up to 120fps’ with ray-tracing off

With a fast action game like Devil May Cry 5 60fps is all but essential but it’s good to see the option for 4K if you really feel it’s important.

120fps has proven a relatively rare option so far ( Halo: The Master Chief Collection is one of the few other to boast of it) but Yagi-Bacon couldn’t say what resolution the game would have to run at to use it, but it’s probably less than 4K.

Although it will be sold for a mid-budget £35 the special edition not only upgrades the graphics but also adds Vergil as a playable character and brings back fan favourite extra modes such as Turbo and Legendary Dark Knight.

The game itself is great so that’s a really tempting price, especially if you’ve never played it before. Plus, it’s a launch title for both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

That means it’ll be out on November 10 for Xbox Series X and November 19 for PlayStation 5 (or November 12 outside of Europe).
