Puzzling PS4 party problem being looked into by Sony

The update has been met with near constant complaints (Pic: Sony)

The recent PlayStation 4 update has made organising parties a nightmare and Sony appears to be well aware of peoples’ displeasure.

The PlayStation 4’s update to 8.00 was meant to make the act of organising parties for multiplayer sessions easier.

Unfortunately, by combining the party and messaging systems, the reverse has happened and has made it less convenient.

With the option to create ‘open’ and ‘private’ parties gone, you can’t quickly jump into an already existing party and instead a new message group needs to be created.

Hey folks – just wanted to let you know that we’re looking into your feedback on the recent changes to Parties on PS4. Thanks for speaking up – we’ll keep you posted — PlayStation (@PlayStation) October 17, 2020

Players have not been quiet about their discontent with the new system and Sony has since assured them that is looking into the feedback.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that it will revert the party system to how it was before though, and may just influence how parties are made on the PlayStation 5 – which was the underlying idea behind the udpate.

The tweet has been met with comments from PlayStation owners demanding that Sony not record their conversations in response to a new feature, despite the fact that Sony previously clarified that said feature is only for PlayStation 5 and that only users can record their chats.

This feature is intended for moderation and to curb potential abuse, which can result in players being banned, but a lot of users believe it to still be an invasion of privacy and that the feature itself can be abused to ban players indiscriminately.

While arguably a legit concern, some people are likely to just be upset that they can’t be racist online anymore without suffering consequences.
