Final Fantasy 16’s graphics not final, has provisional mature rating

Final Fantasy 16’s producer has explained how they decided to release a ‘proper’ trailer to show only in-game scenes.

Final Fantasy 16 was easily one of the bombshell announcements from the most recent PlayStation 5 showcase.

While it did generate a lot of excitement, with a quite frankly impressive trailer that briefly showed a mixture of gameplay and story cinematics, some fans weren’t impressed with the game’s graphics.

However, according to producer Naoki Yoshida, the graphics haven’t been fine-tuned yet and will be improved ahead of release.

Yoshida spoke at a special panel which took place during the Tokyo Games Show, and has been translated by Twitter user Audrey , where Yoshida explained that they wanted to release a trailer that demonstrated in-game scenes, rather than a wholly pre-rendered trailer.

Final Fantasy 16 Producer Yoshi-P mentions they were pressed for time to make the FF16 trailer since they wanted to only show in-game scenes, so they couldn’t fine-tune the graphics. ‘We wanted to show real-time and in-game scenes as much as possible,’ he said, ‘But it was actually pretty difficult time-wise.

‘We barely did any perfecting or tuning for these scenes. It was rather tough. Especially since the title would be compared with other current titles.’

He said that he was also aware that had they released a pre-rendered trailer, there would be constant jokes that this would mean Final Fantasy 16 wouldn’t release for another 15 years or something.

‘Even so, if we were to just release a pre-rendered trailer, then peopled would say something like, ‘Well, guess I’ll see you in 2035!’’

It has been previously reported that the game has been in development for at least four years , so it’s quite possible that it will release in only a couple more years, with a common theory being that it will come out in 2022.

In other news, a Square Enix European newsletter has revealed that Final Fantasy 16 holds a provisional rating of 18, which would make it a Mature release in America.

While this isn’t strictly finalised, it wouldn’t be surprising given the trailer’s dark tone, which has been heavily compared to Game Of Thrones.

Final Fantasy 16 is in development for PlayStation 5.
