Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S pre-orders will only be possible at these UK stores

Pre-orders start… soon (pic: Microsoft)

Pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are set to begin next week but only a select few retailers will be taking part in the UK.

Not only did Microsoft announce the prices of their next gen consoles last week but they also promised that you’d be able to pre-order them from Tuesday, 22 September.

That’s still true but in the UK it will be only from certain stores, although it’s a wide range of big name retailers – so hopefully there won’t be any problems.

The high street stores, if that’s still a relevant term nowadays, involved are Argos, John Lewis , Currys PC World, Smyths, and GAME.

Meanwhile, online-only retailers Amazon.co.uk, Very.co.uk, AO.com, and the Microsoft Store will also all be happy to take your money.

Pre-orders will start for everyone from 8am BST, with the Xbox Series X priced at £449.99 and the Xbox Series S at £249.99.

This is in addition to Xbox All Access, which enables you to buy either console in 24 monthly instalments, with no interest. And as if that wasn’t enough it actually works out slightly cheaper when combined with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Xbox All Access is available via Smyths and GAME in the UK, who act as intermediaries, so click here for, as they say, more information.

Recent rumours suggest that production problems with the PlayStation 5 will mean less consoles than expected in the first few months, although it’s unlikely that will affect the actual launch much.

We still don’t know when the PlayStation 5 will be released or when pre-orders will start, but there’s a good chance we’ll find out on Wednesday with the next showcase event .

There’s no indication of any problems in terms of Xbox production yet and, unlike the Xbox One, the new consoles will be released in most countries worldwide at the same time.
