Animal Crossing: New Horizons has two free events due in April

Easter and Earth Day are both going to be celebrated in Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ first live events, complete with exclusive items.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has already had one post-launch update, but that was only to fix a bug everyone was using to cheat . The next two updates though will be for proper in-game events.

Announced during the surprise Nintendo Direct Mini , Bunny Day is Animal Crossing’s equivalent of Easter. For those new to the series, Animal Crossing has lots of fictional in-game events based on real world holidays, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, and this will be the first for New Horizons.

It will involve Zipper T. Bunny challenging you to dig up (and fish for, oddly) specially hidden eggs which you can then use to create limited time items and furniture.

Bunny Day runs only between 1 April and 12 April, after which you’ll have to wait until next year to see Zipper and his eggs again.

The second event is themed around Earth Day, which in previous games has been referred to as Nature Day.

No specific date was given for the event, but the real Earth Day is 22 April, so it’s obviously going to be sometime around then.

Nature Day has previously been only a one-day event in other Animal Crossing games, with usually just a single free gift (usually a world globe). But the Direct implied that Leif the sloth would be in town and that that this might be a bigger event than usual, perhaps with its own set of unique furniture as well as ‘newly added features’.

Leif ran the Gardening Store in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, so the obvious bet is that he’ll be providing some exclusive DIY recipes for plant-based items.

Both events, and any subsequent ones, are free and all you’ll need to do to access them is have the day one patch installed, so that you’re at at least Ver. 1.0.0.
