Ed Boon denies Injustice 3 tease in Mortal Kombat 11 Joker DLC

Fans are ignoring the creator of Mortal Kombat when he says the new Joker DLC is not a hint that Injustice 3 is on the way.
Over the last several years developer NetherRealm have been working on a very predictable schedule: a new Mortal Kombat one year and then two years later an Injustice game.
Which means that Injustice 3 would be expected to come out next year, and that’s something the dialogue from the new Joker DLC seems to hint at if you organise a mirror match of Joker versus Joker, at which point you get the following banter:
‘We’ll have to make do as a Dynamic Duo!’
‘Only two of us? That’s an injustice!’
‘What we could do with a third…’

The odd wording and the fact that the sequence was tweeted by the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account makes it extra suspicious.
But then Mortal Kombat and Injustice creator Ed Boon tweeted a message saying that the dialogue, ‘is not hinting at anything related to Injustice. Any reference is purely coincidental.’
Which only got fans more convinced that it was indeed a hint, as Boon is a known troll and often enjoys teasing fans and putting them off the scent.

Whether Boon is being honest or not though there are a few reasons to imagine that Injustice 3 won’t be next year, not least the fact that Boon has stated he wants to work on something other than a fighting game next .
There’s also the controversy NetherRealm Studios got into last year over their working conditions and reliance on the ‘crunch’, which would certainly explain the unusually fast turnaround on such high-profile games.
The talk of a ‘third’ can also be construed as a reference to the Three Jokers storyline from the comics, although there’s no reason it can’t have a double meaning.
In favour of the hint being real there’s also the fact that the Injustice games have always sold well and with Warner Bros. still unable to get any other superhero games out the door it’s currently the only ongoing series they have using DC comics characters.
