The Game Awards offers 13 free demos on Steam in new Game Festival event

Not only will you get to hear about a bunch of new games tonight but you’ll be able to play a number of upcoming new PC titles too.
The problem with events like The Game Awards and the E3 showcases (other than the fact that they’re always on in the early hours of the morning for the UK) is that watcingh a one or two minute – often pre-rendered – trailer doesn’t really give you a clear idea of how a game will play.
That’s not an easy problem to solve but one solution this year is The Game Festival, which has been organised in conjunction with Steam in order to give you the chance to play a number of upcoming indie titles for free.
The list below will only be available for 48 hours but a number of them seem interesting, including the System Shock remake and reverse survival horror Carrion.

Whether any of them will actually be at The Game Awards is unclear, but the event usually tries to support indie titles and does have an indie award.
The Game Awards themselves run from 1.30am GMT to 3.30am (yes, we know) while The Game Festival runs on Steam from 6pm tonight till 6pm on Saturday, 14 December.

‘Six years ago I bet everything I had to create The Game Awards as a way to celebrate our passion for gaming,’ said event creator Geoff Keighley.
‘Now feels like the right time to take the next step with The Game Festival, a completely digital approach to the consumer event space. Let’s face it: Not everyone can attend a physical trade show or consumer event. The Game Festival is designed from the ground-up as an event without barriers, extending the benefits of a physical event to the global gaming community that watches The Game Awards.’
