The Game Awards 2019 will have 10 game reveals – but not Resident Evil 3

Don’t expect this at The Game Awards (pic: Gamstat)
This Friday should see the announcement of 10 big name new video games, but Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 remake will not be amongst them.
The Game Awards is not only the video game equivalent of the Oscars , it’s also the most important time of the year, outside of E3 , for unveiling brand new video games.
Last year you had Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Far Cry: New Dawn, Dragon Age 4, The Outer Worlds, Mortal Kombat 11, Crash Team Racing, and the first Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC.
Previous years have included everything from Bayonetta 3 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to the first proper looks at Death Stranding and Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.
So there’s every reason to expect big news this week, even though the proximity of the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett unveilings may limit exactly what can be talked about.

Presenter and organiser Geoff Keighley took to Reddit last night for an AMA in which he claimed, ‘There are around 10 new games/projects being revealed if you want to count the things that no one has heard about yet.’
But despite seeming to be almost a shoe-in, given the recent leak of artwork onto PSN, Resident Evil 3 will not be there.
‘There are no plans (never were) to do anything with Resident Evil 3 at the show. A lot of these ‘leaks’ are completely wrong’, he said. ‘Nothing about our show has leaked as of this writing.’
That is surprising, but if Resident Evil 3 isn’t going to be at The Game Awards the question is when and where are Capcom planning to announce it? Perhaps it will be at Jump Festa after all.
Other possibilities for reveals are Batman: Arkham Legacy and the recently rumoured A Plague Tale sequel , although clearly it’s best not to assume anything.

As for the awards themselves, you can see the full list of nominees here , where, despite its mixed critical reception, Death Stranding has received the greatest number of nominations.
This has caused some controversy, as Geoff Keighley is a friend of Hideo Kojima and has dedicated a lot of time to the game in previous events.
However, he instead in the AMA that he has nothing to do with the nominations or winners, which is instead left up to a panel of international judges – of which we are one.
‘That process isn’t the result of me having a cameo in a game, but also because I work with developers on world premieres, announcements, sponsorships, and other aspects of the show. I want the jury to be ‘blind’ to all those other aspects’, he said.
‘I just have to stay true to the rules and voting and hope that, if I want to build something that stands the test of time, I act as ethically and fairly as I can.’

Technically, The Game Awards is on Thursday, 12 December but because of the time difference it doesn’t start until 1.30am on Friday from a UK perspective.
It’ll last until around 3.30am, so if you don’t fancy staying up that late on a school night we’ll have all the news ready for you as soon as you get up in the morning.
