Halo: The Master Chief Collection has become an instant hit on PC, with up to 160,000 concurrent players for Halo Reach after the first day.
PC owners can now begin their journey through the world of Halo with The Master Chief Collection – a compilation of every major Halo title up until Halo 4 – starting with prequel game Halo Reach, the last title developed by series creators Bungie before the franchise was passed on to 343 Industries.
This was clearly a game PC players were anticipating as, within just over an hour after its release on Steam, Halo Reach had over 100,000 concurrent players.
According to Steam Stats it eventually peaked at 160,000 concurrent players, which are impressive stats for a re-release from 2010, though it was still bested by the likes of Dota 2 and PUBG.
It was also among the best-viewed games on Twitch.tv. Twitter user Nibel revealed that it was the third most streamed game yesterday, with over 114,000 viewers. It’s currently sitting at over 49,000 viewers.

The Master Chief Collection was first released on Xbox One in 2014, where it suffered serious technical issues for years. Originally only the numbered sequels were included, before the Halo ODST campaign was added in as free DLC, and now Halo Reach as well.
It’s the first time anything from the collection has been on PC though, with the games due to be released one at a time, starting with Halo Reach (which is a prequel).

The remaining titles have no release dates, but we do know that they will be released in chronological order: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and then Halo 4.
As for the next major installment in the series, Halo Infinite will be coming in 2020 as a launch title for Microsoft’s next console , Project Scarlett. Though we have zero story details, we do know that Master Chief will be returning as the starring role.
Halo Reach is available now for PC and Xbox One.
